Among all of its virtues, Todos Santos is probably best known for its surrounding beaches’ surfing conditions. Surfers, both amateur and professional have come to surf in Todos Santos, reveling in the large waves brought on by the peculiar weather conditions affected by the interaction of the ocean with the location Todos Santos in relation to the Tropic of Cancer. In fact, many claim that Todos Santos has some of the best surf breaks in the world.

While summer is generally surfing season for most (since school is out during that time and summer is the international vacation season), more hard-core surfers contend that the best time to surf in Todos Santos is in winter and at the end of summer – the waters may be bit (only just) colder then, the conditions for surfing are fantastic. The tropical waves that make an appearance from the August to October hurricane season supposedly appeal to die-hard surfer who like riding difficult waves. The occasional storms and geographic peculiarities that affect the breaks also make for very interesting challenges for more advanced surfers. The more popular surfing breaks in Todos Santos are Playa Los Cerritos, Playa San Pedrito and Palm Beach (which is known to produce the occasional monster wave).

Given this interest in Todos Santos’ surfing locations, surfer-friendly industries have begun to appear in Todos Santos. There are, for example, surfaris – as the name implies, it is a “surf-safari”, where individuals or groups travel to different beach spots in order to ride their waves and surf in their breaks, hopefully advancing their surfing skills. Participants of this kind of activity are provided with surfing gear, in the event that they choose not to bring their own. Costs vary depending on the number of participants.

Other surf services include surfing lessons, which generally cost fifty to sixty US dollars and include surfing gear, umbrellas, and other essentials and; surf camps, which could go as low as a hundred and eighty-eight US dollars (one day lodging and four hours of lessons). Camping out at the beach for free is generally not allowed in Todos Santos, so one must be sure to either make reservations or check with local authorities. There are several accommodations in Todos Santos that are situated rather close to the breaks, making it very convenient for visitors whose primary goal for the trip is to hit the waves.

The surf’s up in Todos Santos, and Todos Santos surfing is definitely not an experience one could easily forget.
